Abstract
The presented manuscript explores the development and application of novel metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) within the context of drug delivery for breast cancer, alongside preliminary investigations into new MOF materials. The thesis is structured into five experimental chapters, framed by an introductory section outlining the relevant background in MOF chemistry, drug delivery, and cancer biology. While the primary focus lies in the design, characterisation, and biomedical evaluation of zinc-based MOFs for therapeutic delivery, two chapters present early stage investigations of novel MOFs, specifically 2D frameworks based on transition- and lanthanide-containing MOFs, which, although not evaluated for drug delivery, contribute to the broader understanding of MOF structural diversity and synthetic versatility.
