Abstract
This presentation discusses privacy challenges related to Thermal Imaging. An overview of the Heliaus (tHErmal vIsion AUgmented awarenesS) EU joint-action research project is provided. The challenges of privacy in thermal data during the pandemic are discussed and the underlying sensing technology of Bolometer cameras is introduced. It is shown how suitable calibration of thermal imaging cameras can avoid collecting biometric or personally identifiable data. This allow their use in automotive, smart-city and security applications without GDPR data privacy concerns.
