Abstract
Randomised controlled trials are the gold standard for evaluating treatments and informing clinical decision making. Recruitment to trials is challenging, and especially so for perinatal and maternity trials. There are specific challenges to consider with regards to the logistical, socioecological, risk and vulnerability of the mother and baby dyad. Most of the limited evidence on trial recruitment strategies are from women’s perspective, the evidence from the recruiter’s perspective is even more scarce and outdated. The overall aim of this doctoral research was to develop novel critical insights and contribute to the existing literature on the recruitment of potential participants to trials in maternity care from the recruiter's perspective. Then, using a behavioural approach, this research aimed to develop a strategy for healthcare professionals to use when recruiting to trials in maternity care.
