Abstract
Your qualitative research journey can be exhilarating and challenging at the same time. Having read about some of the many methods of analysis possible, and how these have been applied by our case study authors, you may feel that the journey ahead is overwhelming. However, there are some practical considerations that can support you in undertaking qualitative data analysis. These considerations may be relevant before, during or after your qualitative data analysis process. This chapter draws on the wealth of experience in qualitative research shared by the International Community of Practice in Qualitative Research and Teaching (https://groups.io/g/CoPQualSP). Members from across Australia, New Zealand, UK and Ireland shared their practical tips for qualitative research in an open discussion forum. The chapter also draws on the literature and experiences of the editors of this book with respect to practical considerations in undertaking any qualitative study. This chapter is also guided by Spiers’ (2019) 10 tips for new researchers: Qualitative research is a craft; Call out for help; Learn software; Learn it before you need it; Differentiate the coding you are doing; Think first, computer code second; Talk about your ideas and analysis; Start writing earlier than you think; Treat all as a draft; and Self-awareness.
