Abstract

This review essay discusses the content, significance and reception of Tom Kettle's posthumous collection of essays The Ways of War (1917), published one year after he was killed in the Battle of the Somme. It discusses Kettle's little known critique of the war and his rationale as a high-profile nationalist for supporting the Allied war effort.
